We needed to get the disorganised organsied in order to reduce confusion and workload for all effected employees. I also looked at the design system and found UXer's avoiding token because of complexity and rules being missed because of Figma overload","step_image":""},{"step_title":"Pitching","step_body":"With evidence gathered we needed buy in from management to see the value in new colours, new tokens and a hosting location for the design system.","step_image":null},{"step_title":"Desk research","step_body":"I did a deep analysis of colour rules and graphic break down to give my argumentation solid grounding come presentation time","step_image":null},{"step_title":"Colour design","step_body":"I carried out an intense and ruthless revamp of the colours taking into consideration the stakeholders input and reduced the colours down to 7 blues from over 50","step_image":null},{"step_title":"Design and stakeholder loops","step_body":"From there on there was persistent back and forth with stakeholders negotiating the rules and colours I had designed until the project was canned. A year later the colours were picked up by an external agency who pushed them through.","step_image":null},{"step_title":"Delivery","step_body":"There were strong objections to the direction I took but with negotiations and compromise I managed to get the majority of the decisions through  and implemented into the new design system and colour pallete","step_image":null}]},{"acf_fc_layout":"large_pull_quote","quote":"We spend a large amount of time just rejecting non compliant work","attribution":"Mette b - Head of branding"},{"acf_fc_layout":"text_plus","label":"Auditing","heading":"WCAG Audit","body":"In order to push part of my point about the colours and design system across to management I carried out an audit on the website to see exactly where we were falling short on WCAG compliance.\r\n\r\nThe audit showed that we had several infringements in colours that we could easily fix. Buttons had background colours that meant text failed, there were promotion tags with the same issues, gradients meant WCAG compliance was variable, images behind text meant you couldn't ensure compliance and link text failed everywhere.\r\n\r\nFixing these issue was a token change but just showed that we needed a wider review.\r\n\r\nWhat we couldn't fix easily was the raft of compliance failures on the dev side with missing ARIA on buttons, images, hover and accessibility issue accross the site.\r\n\r\nFixing those would be a process task moving forwards but again it added weight to the argument that we needed a review and better alignment and rules","bullets":null,"image":486,"image_position":"right","button_label":"","button_url":"","button_new_tab":false},{"acf_fc_layout":"user_interviews","label":"","heading":"Interviews","description":"I did a series of interview with some of the developers and the UX team to establish what the problems were and what was worth keeping. This lead to different blues being used across the site and slight mismatches in designs. The main colours were for braning and the function colours were for functional tasks. There had to be a clear rule set because of the challenges that branding governance had with employee freedom.
